Welcome to the home of the Oxford Area High School cross-country team. Cross-country is a sport where people compete in running a 5K, or about 3.1 miles. At the high school level, each high school is represented by a varisity group of seven of that school's best runners and a junior varisity group of that school's remaining runners. Each school has a girl's and a guy's team with seperate varisity and junior varisity teams and seperate scoring. In a normal meet, the guys will run first and the girls will either run two or five minutes after the guys. The first five runners on each team score for that school, none of the other positions are counted into the scoring. If a team does not have at least five runners, then that school automatically loses that meet. The way scoring works is simple, the first five runners on each team receive the number of points based on that runner's position. So, if the five best runners get first place, second place, fifth place, seventh place, and tenth place, then that team gets a total of twenty-five points. The idea is to get the lowest amount of points possible.

Of course, regular meets aren't the only thing that high schools compete in. There are tri-meets, (rarely) quad-meets, invitationals, leagues, districts, states, and nationals. Tri-meets are meets with three schools competing, quad-meets are meets with four schools competing, and invitationals are meets with five or more teams competing. Invitationals have any where from fifty runners to over three-hundred runners running at once. Leagues, for us, is a Ches-Mont championship meet. It is at leagues that the Ches-Mont league determines its champion. Districts is a district meet used to determine which runners and which teams qualify for states. We run in District One, which is one of the best districts in the state for cross-country. States is a meet of the best runners and teams from the state and is used to determine who qualifys for nationals. Nationals is the meet with the best runners and teams from the entire country.
